Process is critical to Ghita's work, and the firing of the clay is a step that allows for much experimentation. Ghita uses three methods — wood-fired, sawdust-fired, and electricity.

"The most exciting of the three is wood firing. I can do that outside in the warmer months. It's so interesting to see what happens during the process. Ash may land on the clay, melt and form a beautiful natural glaze, or through the reduction/oxidation process, the clay reacts by leaving flashes of toasty brown."

Ghita's strong affinity for nature and the living things around her is evident in all her creations. One only needs to visit her rural studio to get a sense of just how important nature is to her work.

Ghita enjoys time in her garden in Baie Verte, New Brunswick. "I escaped the hustle and bustle of the city. Nothing but splendid isolation out here — the perfect environment for creating!"
